Khyeon Kim — Boring bank cards
Banks are official. They can’t not be official for their official nature.Official means serious. So banks are serious.Banks are serious. They can’t not be serious for their serious nature.Serious means boring. So banks are seriously boring.Banks are seriously boring. They can’t not be seriously boring for their seriously boring nature.Seriously boring means repetition. So banks are seriously boring repetitions,so as their card designs. So this is a collection of very seriously boring official bank cards repeated around the globe.
HOW TO FIT IN
1. Name of the bankChoose a serif typeface for the seriousness of your bank.(Choose a sans serif typeface if you want your bank to look more modern, but less serious.)Make sure they stand out, choosing the opposite colour from the background of the card.Black or white is also good.Place it on the top left/right corner.
2. LogosPlace all the ugly but necessary logos (eg.VISA, MasterCard, Debit, paypass, etc.) at the bottom right corner. Just list them from bottom to top for multiple logos, and casually jump the card numbers if it is on the way.Put a random circle to group them all if you feel like.
3. BackgroundAvoid mono colour background, but also avoid too many elements, for it to look serious enough to be trust-worthy. Easy way out is a magnified logo of the bank, either pictorial or a letter.
4. More logosThe more technologically advanced the card is, the more ugly it will look. So decide what you want to give up.If you have decided to go with ugliness :– magnetic chip: place above the first 4 digits of your card number. – Wifi: top right corner, below the logo of the bank if the logo is on the way.
