Peter van Langen — Techno labels
Designing the circle: a pain in the ass.A lot of text needs to go there, fittingthe strict shape. Still for me it’s themost interesting part of a LP.
Collection of techno labels from various LP’s. Most of them are collected at Clone Records in Rotterdam.
HOW TO FIT IN
Type used:Almost all designers use sans serif typefaces. Is it because of the systematic and mechanic feeling of techno? Also the type is being set in capitals and you see a lot of heavily edited typefaces.
Colors:Techno labels don’t include a lot of color. Mostly the labels are black or white with the opposite color for the typography. In labels with color the typography is mostly the only element with color.
Placement:Although the strict shape the designers come up with interesting solutions. In a lot of labels the titles and numbers are being centered of they follow the round shape. De record labels Delsin and Tresor are good examples where the typography is left-aligned. These labels feel more static.
