Bohwa Jang — Toy Type
Whenever we go to a toy shop, we can usually feel the overwhelming bright colors for their packages. Why, why they alway use RED , YELLOW a lot? Why, always there are outlines with the type? Why, always so much 3D effect? Why, always lots of texture there?
This project started out of curiosity about how type on a toy package is recognized by children who can not read. How do they catch the attention of kids?Let’s explore the commercial magic...
HOW TO FIT IN
The interest thing is that all type on a toy package have a three dimensional effect and varies on a textual level, but mostly they look soft. It makes people want to touch them and they tend to have a lot of color (mostly intensive colors like vivid red, yellow, green) and outline to catch the children’s attention. It seems like they are yelling like “please, look at me and buy me!!!!!!!”
